Un Mode de Transport is a mostly wordless picture book for the French book publisher Éditions du Rouergue. I am a big fan of their “Touzazimute” series, with the likes of Olivier Douzou, Helge Reumann, Jochen Gerner, Frédéric Rey, and Frédérique Bertrand. In 2001, they asked me contribute to the series with a book of my own. I was to choose a subject and explore the subject with my drawings. Since I love drawing cars, airplanes, trains, boats, shoes, etc, it was an easy choice.
The book was published in March 2004. It might be found at Amazon France, still, as well as FNAC and maybe some other places.
Un Mode de Transport was featured in Martin Salisbury’s terrific book Play Pen: New Children’s Book Illustration published in 2007 by Laurence King Publishers. It’s available on Amazon and it’s just great.
In 2004 I was invited to the Salon du Livres de Paris in March 2004 where I signed copies of the book and tried to speak French. Merci à chacun qui est venu par la cabine et a dit bonjour. Here are some pictures from that little journey.
Here is a little animation for the book.
