The Philadelphia Free Library Festival was this past weekend. Eric Wight and I had a little drawing show on Saturday for which I printed up this two-color poster. We didn’t sell out at the festival so I’ve got them up on Etsy now. Get one while they hot.

Mash-up of Awesomeness: the poster it is printed

Eric Wight and I are doing a program at the Philadelphia Free LIbrary Festival this weekend and we’re printing a poster for the occasion. However, I’ve not been able to choose a particular color combibation. So with a few days left before I print these, I thought I’d ask some opinions. A caveat is that the nature of screen printing dictates that colors aren’t always 100% predictable, and another is that we might end up making more than one version. Just curious what y’all think.

This is me reading at the Philadelphia Library Festival over this last weekend and for some reason the picture just makes me laugh.

This weekend is the Free Library Festival at the Philadelphia Central Library. It takes place on Saturday and Sunday April 18 and 19 at 19th street at Vine. I’ll be appearing (sounds like a magic act) in the Target Tent at 2pm on Sunday. The idea is that I’ll be reading from the Judy Sierra book I illustrated Beastly Rhymes. It’s a fun book to read aloud. They also tell me I’ll read something else too.
There is a lot of other things to do at the library as well. Please come out and say hello and have a good time. The weather will be nice! Yes!

The weather was cold and wet, but it was sunny and dry in YoYo Joe’s in Wilmington on Saturday. Thanks to Joe and his family, and to those who braved the elements to come by and say hi.
And for those who aren’t in the know, YoYo Joe’s is a great excuse to drive south to Wilmington. Books, toys, games, puzzles, and more yoyos than you knew existed. Oh, and a ship! It’s a great shop.
The Brandywine River Museum is just a few minutes away so you can check out the Edward Gorey show while you’re down there til May 17.

I will be down in beautiful Wilmington Delaware this Saturday signing books and playing with toys at YoYo Joe’s toy store. Joe Mitchell asked me to come in and entertain for an hour or so, and I figure that since hanging out in toy stores is my sixth favorite thing to do, I’d say certainly.
So I’ll be down with Sacha and the kids all acting like a big shot between 1pm and 2pm. If you’re anywhere near Wilmington (seeing the Gorey show at the Brandywine Museum, perhaps?) please stop in and say hello.
YoYo Joe’s is at 3654 Concord Pike in Wilmington.

I totally forgot to post this! Tonight is the opening of a show of children’s book art at the Markeim Art Center in Haddonfield, NJ. There are several authors and illustrators involved, including E.B. Lewis, Bob Byrd, Anthony Morrow, David Wiesner, and Charles Santore. The opening is tonight from 6:00 to 8:00pm. There will be a lot of art on the walls, and a lot of it for sale. Visit the Markeim site and download the flyer.

I “appeared” a couple of places this last few days and I have some pictures to prove it. First, on Friday, I spent the day at Gladwyne Elementary near Philadelphia. I want to thank everyone there for such a great time and reception. Barbara Gross is an amazing librarian and had all the kids so ready to go. I’d been snowed out twice before finally making it there on Friday, so thanks for the patience as well. The photo is me with the Shredder Snowman.

On Sunday I was part of the children’s book fair at the Main Line Art Center in Haverford, PA. It was packed and I got to meet a lot of great people. I gave a little presentation about my work and signed a lot of books. Thanks to the MLCA for putting it on, and to Children’s Book World in Haverford for selling books. And thanks Sacha for taking the two pics.

Here are all six race cars. These will be for sale at the Main Line Art Center’s children’s book fair this Sunday, Feb 8. I’ll be there with several other authors and illustrators. At 1:30 I’ll be giving a 15-minute presentation talking about my illustrations and inspiration. Hope you can make it.
Whatever of these race cars that doesn’t sell there will be going on my Etsy page on Monday. I plan to do a lot more of these, as well as some monsters, robots, aliens, trucks, etc.
I have a set on Flickr that shows these cars in the works.

Thanks to all y’all whom came out and braved the crowd and my tedium at the Philadelphia Book Festival this last weekend. It was grand. I followed a really good guitar-player and then I was followed by Gordon from Sesame Street, so what did I do? I talked about Photoshop! Woo!
Below are photos of me in front of the awesome banner they made with my tree on it, Adam Rex and me with Gordon (cool!), our friend Owen dancing while I waxed about a certain piece of software, a banner using stuff I made, among others.
