Big and humongous
This is sort of a tease. It’s a just-approved sketch for a job in which the final inked original art is 30 inches wide by 40 inches tall (76cm by 102cm — really — take a tape measure and see how big that is). When it’s done it’s going to take up to 18 passes on my scanner to get it into Photoshop. It’s by far the biggest, most complicated illustration I’ve ever done. That’s all I can say about it right now. When it’s done I’ll post more. (And yes, I know this is a 500-pixel low-res image. That’s the tease.)

The sketch itself was about 15 hours of worrying. I mean drawing. I have no idea how long the final will take. Maybe more. Maybe less. I’m curious.
And to answer your “lovely” query… Yes, usually I LOVE digging in and losing myself in a complex drawing. I put the music on, watch DVDs, listen to baseball, and time just flies by. But I’m on a squeeze with several children’s book projects, among other things, and I’m afraid I won’t get to spend eight to ten straight hours on this at a time like I would like to. I have some illustrations due today that if I can get out the door, will smooth things out for this. So maybe!

Brian, I did a poster for a kids mag recently only HALF that size and with layers my new computer constantly crashed… to the point I had to buy another external hard drive just for IT!!! How in the world are you going to finish something this size? Wow, good luck:)

I do large illustrations all the time — just not THIS large. I have enough space on my HD to handle it. I’ll certainly post the final.
