race cars #3 and #4

January 26th, 2009

Finished two more of the race cars. Each one is closer to what I had in my old head when I conceived of these things. I’m spending a bit more time planning them, and being a little tighter with the craft part of it.
I’ve two more to do for the show on Feb 8, and then I’ll see where to go next.
You can see how these are made on my Flickr page here.

Two down, four to go.
I added some logos and stickers that I made with a laser printer on this one. The driver is from the Yellow Pages. Stay tuned.

race car #2, in the works

January 21st, 2009

Started race car #2 today.
All the blue is from magazines and the driver and windshield is from the yellow pages.
Note as well that I’ve sanded down the gesso, revealing the wood. I like this. I’m gonna do it on the rest of the collages.

race car collage #1

Here’s the first of what will soon be six, and eventually more, race car collages. This is 10 x 10 inches, is done with magazine and other pages, acrylic paint, and it’s on birch plywood. The first six of these will be for sale at the Main Line Art Center’s Children’s Book Fair on February 8. As I get the other five completed I’ll post them here as well.

race car 5

I’m taking part in a children’s book fair at the Main Line Art Center the first weekend of February where they’re offering some space to sell a few pieces. I’m taking this opportunity to further some work that I’ve been wanting to do away from the computer. As you know, I’ve been offering some digital prints on Etsy for a couple of weeks. But it’s my new year resolution to get my hands dirty in 2009 and do some painting and printing.

Therefore, I’m attempting to get six collage/paintings done in time for this festival. I’ve had these race cars in my head for weeks and before starting on the finals, I wanted to do some test drives (ha ha, a pun!). So what you’re seeing here are small “sketches” at 8.25 x 5 inches. The finished ones will be 10 x 10 inches on wood, and will be lovelier, cooler, and all around better than these.
If this works out, expect airplanes, space ships, monsters and robots to follow. Pricing to be determined. Stay tuned.

Mini Puzzle for Mudpuppy

August 21st, 2008

Mini Puzzle

A while back I made a big puzzle for Mudpuppy with the theme “Air, Land, and Sea.” Recently they asked me to make another puzzle, a little smaller for the 3+ crowd, with more cars. Last night this thing got finished and will be out June 2009.
As you probably know, I really really like drawing cars and trucks and things that go.

Finally! I got two large boxes today full of the play-set, puzzle, and stationery I designed and illustrated for Mudpuppy last year.

Air, Land and Sea

Last year I made an illustration for Mudpuppy, art directed by the amazing Lorena Siminovich, called Air, Land, and Sea. Basically, aircraft, autos, and boats. I’ve been dying to see this and it looks like it’s finally out! I don’t have my samples yet so if you have this or you’ve seen it let me know how it looks.

There is a puzzle, stationery, and a play set. Collect them all!

Just drew these today for the playscene version of that city-scape for Mudpuppy. If someone came along and said “Brian, for the rest of eternity, you are only allowed to draw cars, boats, airplanes and robots,” I’d be ok with that.

Air, Land and Sea

March 19th, 2007

Just today finished an illustration for a company called Mudpuppy, art directed by Lorena Siminovich. It will be published in about a year (Spring 08) in the form of a puzzle. The theme was “air, land and sea” and it was directly inspired by my book from 2004 “Un Mode de Transport” published by Le Rouergue. Stay tuned for more on this in, oh, about a year.
