Shredderman is a four book series written by Wendelin Van Draanen and published by Knopf. This series was my first foray into illustrating children’s books.

The series is about a kid named Nolan Byrd. In book one Nolan is hassled and picked on by the school bully, Bubba. Nolan exacts revenge on Bubba by creating an anonymous website and a mystery hero named Shredderman. Books two, three, and four continue the story as Nolan rights other wrongs like a graffiti problem, a nosy photographer, and a real live spy problem.
I really liked the stories and the characters and I was really truly sad to complete these books.

When I visit schools, kids are still really excited to hear about and talk about the Shredderman series. It was a real hit.

Here are the four covers.

And some interior illustrations:

And some more pictures! (I like to take pictures of my books when they’re in stores. One day maybe I’ll be jaded and cynical and not really care. But right now I’m always just stupid crazy about it.)

In 2007 Nickelodeon made a movie called Shredderman Rules, based on book one of the series. I had nothing to do with the movie nor did they use any of my artwork. Even still, I thought it was pretty cute.

You can order Shredderman book one here.
